Investment Risk Tolerance Instrument
The Investment Risk Tolerance Instrument (IRTI) is a risk profiling tool developed by James Corter, a behavioral finance and psychometrics researcher and Professor of Statistics and Education at Columbia University in New York.
The IRTI has been developed in response to the need of wealth managers, financial advisors and stockbrokers to better understand the attitudes and goals of the individual investors they work with. It utilizes the very latest research and methodology to measure an investor's risk tolerance capacity when making investment decisions.
The IRTI comprises 21 multiple choice questions and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The test produces an overall risk tolerance score for each individual placing them into one of five risk tolerance groups, and generates four subscores that measure specific risk factors: tolerance for gains and losses, experience/confidence and uncertainty tolerance. IRTI respondents receive a bespoke report that includes their score, four subscores and a comparison rating against a general investor population and a group of high net worth individuals, along with a detailed interpretation of their results.
